Recovering damages for a cargo owner when a bulk carrier was detained at a Russian port

Dumler and Partners represented the cargo owner in a dispute with the shipowner due to damages caused by a customs incident at a Russian port.
The incident stemmed from the shipowner’s violation of Russian Federation customs laws. This led to confiscation of the cargo as an administrative penalty and the cargo owner suffering damages as a result.
The dispute included arbitration in the London Maritime Arbitrators Association (LMAA) and a series of Russian court cases related to the arbitration, all the way to Russia’s Supreme Court.
The cargo owner’s claims for damages were granted.
